In an interview with British publication The Sun, popstar Madonna revealed that she's not a big fan fan of popular image-sharing app Instagram.

Madonna has nearly 14 million Instagram followers (and she has 2.5 million followers on Twitter), but she stated that: “You get caught up in comparing yourself to others. I think Instagram is made to make you feel bad. People are really a slave to winning people’s approvals.”

She added: “I was lucky enough to have a life as an artist before the phone and Instagram and social media because I did have that time to develop as an artist and a human without feeling the pressure of judgment of other people or comparing myself to other people.”

Madonna joins the ranks of other celebrities like Selena Gomez who have spoken up about the harmful effects of social media.

Last month Selena Gomez said that social media has been "terrible" for people in her generation. "I understand that it’s amazing to use as a platform but it does scare me when you see how exposed these young girls and boys are. I think it’s dangerous for sure,” she said. "For me, I like to be intentional with it. I see these young girls … I’ll meet them at meet-and-greets, and they’re just devastated by bullying and not having a voice. I would be careful and allow yourself some time limits of when you should use it,” she added.
