The official trailer for the second season of drama series Big Little Lies is out and it's reminding us of why we were hooked to the show in the first place.

Whether it's the unapologetically loud, dramatic and often clashing personalities of the ladies of Monterey or the uneasy tension that comes with this show's slow unravelling of its plot's core mystery, the trailer tells us that there's more where that came from in Season 2, which premieres on June 9.

As the Monterey ladies shepherd their children through the second grade, they are faced with the obviously nerve wracking pressures of the investigation into the death of Celeste's (Nicole Kidman) husband Perry. Madeline (Reese Witherspoon), Renata (Laura Dern), Bonnie (Zoë Kravitz) and Jane (Shailene Woodley) are all suspected of being involved in his 'accidental' death.

Of course, they know more than they're letting on and apart from detectives, it appears that Perry's quietly menacing mother (Meryl Streep) is hell bent on sniffing out the whole truth behind his death.

Both Kidman and Witherspoon are executive producing the show with David E. Kelly, and the series will be directed by Andrea Arnold instead of Jean-Marc Vallée, who helmed the first season.
