Pakistani celebrities are proving that desis can wear yellow and look fabulous

We shy away from yellow because our colonial hangover tells us it makes desis look 'dark.' It's time to get over it.

Hear us out.

We know that yellow can be a challenging colour and most people shy away from it. But we Pakistanis shun it more than others because of our colonial hangover and "gora complex"; it's tricked us into thinking we can't pull it off because "it makes you look dark/tan".

There's nothing wrong with owning your melanin and trust us, when worn right, yellow is one of the most flattering hues out there.

And lucky for you, it's all over the high street at the moment, in an array of shades to suit all skin tones.

So if you, like us, go trend spotting on Instagram, you might've noticed what we've been seeing on our feeds: according to Pakistani celebs, yellow seems to be the 'it' colour of spring/summer 2019 whether it's bold, bright or pastel.

Still not sold? Ayeza Khan just recently put up this Instagram post:

And she's not the only one who thinks so.

You could wear a bright tee, like Urwa Hocane...

How about a pale one? Digging this funky tee on Mehwish Hayat.

If you're not ready to commit, you can start small, like with a pair of sunnies.

Or a bag. Inspiration? Hareem Farooq.

If you want to make a statement without looking OTT, you can opt for a mustard cover-up or jacket.

Exhibit A. Saba Qamar.

Syra Shahroz is also a fan.

Sajal Aly's out here rocking two trends in one: denim on denim with a mellow yellow tank top!

If you're ready to go big or go home, maybe it's time for a jumpsuit, like the one worn by Hania Aamir?

Here's Hareem Farooq's making a strong case for it, she's even got matching hoops!

Woman should wear yellow. It is the most beautiful of all primary colors. It combines with many other colors for fashion and sports wear.

@ibrahim yellow is not a primary color. It does fall into RGB spectra absolutely.

Yellow looks good if you are not too dark. If you have a very dark complexion, avoid it. This is not a racist comment. Light Orange, a variant of yellow, looks great on dark skin.

Wear whatever colour you are at ease with. If others like it, you are trend setter.

@Umar Bin Ayaz Yellow is a primary color. Primary colors are Red, Blue and Yellow. Contrary to belief, GREEN is not a primary color.

As an artist, I have always loved color. And yellow on our skin tones looks amazing! Yellow is a staple in my wardrobe for all seasons... Always good to mix and match every color this planet has to offer. Love this!

We Pakistanis are blessed with natural good looks and complexion - most diverse and pretty in southeast asia. So thankfully, every shade looks good on us.

@Umar Bin Ayaz In subtractive color model which is CMYK (used for printing) Yellow is a primary color. RGB is additive color model which applies to light and it’s result is seen through screens.
