Saudi Arabia will be airing popular television series Dhoop Kinare (1987) this June, state reports.

Arab News reported that the Sahira Kazmi directorial along with Tanhaiyaan have been selected by PTV to air in the Kingdom this year.

“We have selected two very popular dramas, Dhoop Kinare (Sunlight’s Edge) and Tanhaiyaan (Loneliness), for Arabic subtitles. We will be able to send Dhoop Kinare to Saudi Arabia by June this year,” Shahzia Sikander, Director International Relations at Pakistan Television, told the publication.

“This is the first time that Pakistan Television is subtitling Pakistani drama into Arabic for Saudi viewers,” Sikander said.

Tanhaiyaan's airing date has not yet been announced.

Late last month, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry revealed in a press conference in Riyadh that Pakistan and Saudi Arabia are in talks for increasing cultural exchange between the two countries.

He said that Pakistan wished to participate in Saudi Arabia's cultural revival and is willing to support its newly established performing arts academies by sharing the expertise of our actors, directors and other artists like calligraphers.

He also announced that the Pakistani government will make arrangements for the Arabic dubbing of local TV dramas to facilitate their export to Saudi Arabia. He added that Saudi Airlines is being approached for the inclusion of Pakistani dramas as part of the in-flight entertainment.

Why not something a bit more modern which surely would have much better picture quality? If eyes are used to 4k or HD content they won't like watching SD from 80s. I would had thrown in 'Humsafar' at least in the mix.

No doubt these were classics but will they perform in modern era is a question mark. I think Pakistan should broad cast its latest serials from private channels like Humsafar. Unfortunately PTV don't have anything to sell from the contemporary era.

Why Pakistani dramas are not dubbed in English and Arabic? Atleast add subtitles. This is one thriving industry with great potential for exporting the product and culture.

What? of all those great dramas, over 30 years old ones? Yes, they were good at that time, and we still enjoy those over acting even today as we have an emotional connection. Why would someone who does not have any emotional attachments would like these oldies, where neither the picture quality nor the sound quality is acceptable today. In my opinion some newer dramas should have been promoted rather than over 30 years old ones. Today's shows are leaps better than those old ones in terms of acting quality, visual quality, content and variety of topics.
