This Pakistani blogger is calling out social media influencers for misleading their followers

"Why'd you call yourself an influencer if you're going to lie and recommend products to followers for money?" she asked.

Local blogger Naiha J. Eiman, who goes by Instagram handle Rebellious Brownie, has called out fellow social media influencers for lying to their followers about product reviews.

Before going on IG live to document the incident, Naiha first asked her followers whether she should speak about a matter that's been upsetting her for a few days now. The answer was a resounding 'yes'.

She uploaded the video. "I do not mean to offend of belittle anybody. A couple of weeks back an agency reached out to me to review a product. After using the product I told the agency that I will not review the product because I do not like it, and that if they want an honest review I can do that. The agency said no, they will take back the product and that I don't have to review it for them. I said okay, I don't want money and I wont review it till they want an honest review on it. I returned the product.

"After a few days I saw a few bloggers reviewing it and I told hem that it's not worth it and that they should not recommend it otherwise they will lose their credibility. Nobody listened to me. Then I saw one blogger post a [positive] review [on the product]. I felt hurt and offended by these actions and I commented under the post saying 'I did not like the product. I have used it and I will not recommend it to anybody', my comment was deleted."

"I actually confronted the blogger and she admitted that she was doing the wrong thing but she still decided to take the brand's side. The product was reviewed without being used."

Naiha refused to name and shame the blogger in question but said that this video is a message for all other bloggers out there to be more responsible and honest with their followers.

"I care about the followers. Why do you call yourself an influencer if you're going to lie about using certain products and recommend them to everyone," especially one which comes with a heavy price tag and may be pricey for followers, she asked fellow bloggers.

"In my eyes that blogger has lost all credibility," said Naiha. "If you like it after reviewing it, [it] makes sense [to recommend it to your followers]. It upset me seeing that so many people follow you and they're willing to buy products based on your recommendation and you're lying to them for a small sum of money. Stop calling yourself an influencer if you're not going to be honest with your followers. Please take this role seriously otherwise leave this business."

Speaking to IG users, she stressed, "Be careful about who you follow and what you buy based on someone else's recommendation because now I don't know how many bloggers are out there who post about products without reviewing them. I want to be honest to my followers."

Other local bloggers like Bia Alina (that Karachi girl), Fatima Haryani (that girl with the blue bag) and more gave Naiha a shoutout for being true to herself and her followers.

You have done a great job. Most of the Vloggers reviewed sub-standards or fake products to their followers which is a very unethical approach. Companies are using influencers to market their products and people are buying with close eyes on the behalf of Vloggers' positive reviews

This is why you should stay away from all and any "influencers" Most of marketing, advertising has moved to social media and its 99.9% lies, disinformation and exaggerations to SELL the product and collect affiliate money.

Good power to you for raising an ethical question. To top this there are bloggers who work in an even worse ways (especially food bloggers) who go out and threaten/blackmail restaurants with their bad reviews in exchange for payments. These bloggers generally work in groups and have the followers to form opinions. Sad. The blogger mafia
