This is recognition that I must be doing something right: Mehwish Hayat on her Tamgha-i-Imtiaz

The Punjab Nahi Jaungi star will be receiving the civil award from the President on March 23
12 Mar, 2019

On this March 23, Punjab Nahi Jaungi star Mehwish Hayat will be one of 127 people who will be bestowed a civil award by President Arif Alvi in honour of their work for Pakistan's betterment.

Mehwish will receive a Tamgha-i-Imtiaz, which is the fourth-highest decoration given to any civilian in Pakistan. Other entertainment figures being honored on March 23 include actor Babra Sharif and singers Attaullah Essakhelvi and Sajjad Ali, who are both being bestowed the Sitara-i-Imtiaz. Reema Khan is getting a Pride of Performance award.

Speaking to Images, Mehwish said it was life-affirming to receive this honour:

"I was very humbled by the news that the President of Pakistan has decided to bestow this honour upon me. For me, I have simply been pursuing my passion and to be recognised in this way with one of the highest civil awards is recognition that I must be doing something right.

"I took the decision very early to remain in Pakistan and to focus on building our nascent industry and I am proud of my contribution. For the past five years I have been blessed with some of the biggest hits of Pakistani cinema."

She also said that she shares the honour with her friends in the field without whom she could not have achieved any success:

"But I can not take credit for this alone and and as I receive the award on the 23rd I will be sharing it with all the directors, co-stars, writers, technicians and even the makeup artists and spot boys who have contributed to this success.

"I thank all my fans who have supported me through this wonderful journey. All I can say is that best is yet to come and I hope to keep making Pakistan proud of me. Pakistan Zindabad."

We wish Mehwish Hayat even more success in the years to come.

Reema should be nominated too. Even Mehwish seems unsure for why she is being honored.

This is ridiculous. What has she done to get nominated for the award. Many deserving and outstanding senior artists who have worked for decades in this industry needs recognition. Akhtar Shah Khan Jedi and Zeba Shehnaz are two examples to quote.

This is an insult to all those well deserving individuals who did a lot for the country and humanity and never received any recognition for their contributions.

Excellent choice ...... she deserves the recognition . Encouraging the youth in an industry that has been neglected for too long, is a step in the right direction.

Good to recognise young artists, but some one who really deserves this honour is Zeba Shahnaz and Ismael Tara.

Mehwish Hayat is one of those rare propakistani artists in modern times who has represented our country on different platforms. She comes across as mature and educated. I think she deserves the award.

Well it's a great decision by the selection committee, in one way or another the artist "Mehwish Hayat" has contributed in the success of the country's cinema industry. Praising country's big screen talent is quite important in order to honour their devotion but again there are alot of other legendary actors who should also be taken under consideration.

I wonder, are these awards really given to deserving people or to blue-eyed ones?

Tamgha-i-Imtiaz(Sitara-i-Imtiaz) was rightfully given to the great Dilip Kumar for developing better relations between Pakistan and India.Congratulations to Mehwish Hayat.

My father wrote the lyrics of “Ga mere manwa gaata ja re” of Pakistani film “Diya aur Toofan” in 1969 and brought the comedian Saeed Khan known as Rangeela and hundreds of many other artist to Pakistan film industry. He also made one of the firm Pushto film “Kala Khizan kala bahar” My father passed away in 2002 and like many he was never recognized for the work they did for the film industry.

@Sab Se Pehle Pakistan exactly! Why not reward the highest civil honour to Pervez Hoodbhoy and other intellectuals? Why not Nasim Zehra-the only string theorist from Pakistan, and that too, a woman. Pakistan either awards the religious fundamentalists or the "entertainment" industry's contribution. A much more dismal picture is being displayed by the state of comments asking the highest civil awards to be given to the likes of Reema Khan!
