Who wore the better red carpet gown at the Hum Style Awards 2018?

Who wore the better red carpet gown at the Hum Style Awards 2018?

We say better because the sartorial game this time around was a little uninspiring...
Updated 04 Sep, 2018

The 3rd Hum Style Awards took place in Karachi on Saturday night but our favourite part is just beginning.

After all, deconstructing red carpet looks is our guilty pleasure of choice and we know the magic is always in the details — we're talking sequins, cutouts, sultry slits, the works.

With the show being a bit of a snooze-fest content-wise, our focus was on red carpet fashion more than ever.

There were some highs and many lows. Here's our own take on who got it right, who tried and failed and who didn't seem to put in any effort at all:

Yay: Saba Qamar

Go Elan!
Go Elan!

The Baaghi actress' sexy Elan official gown was the epitome of go big or go home; it was all very Black Swan-esque. She let her poofy dress do all the talking, pairing it with a sleek updo and minimal accessories. She almost looked overdressed because everyone else on the red carpet seemed to look like they didn't even try but hey, we'll take some drama over the other vanilla looks we were served any day!

Nay: Ainy Jaffri

We're just going to say it: the sequin trend that never seems to die NEEDS to die.

And Ainy's a repeat offender in more ways than one. She wore the same dress Ong-Oaj Pairam that Amelia Warner wore to last year's BAFTA awards. Why she chose something last season instead of a local designer bespoke number is beyond us. The ombre sequin maxi is fun but did little to flatter her petite figure and was a bit much coupled with the big Hollywood hair.

Yay: Aamina Sheikh

Although this dress was crazy similar to Mahira Khan's LSA outfit from last year, we still think the Cake actress looked graceful in this well-fitted Maheen Karim outfit especially since she usually tends to go OTT. Her dangly earrings and side-swept hair kept the look very soft and effortless.

We just wish it was a different colour, this is a little too reminiscent of the Ninja Turtles if you ask us.

Nay: Syra Shahroz

Way TOO laid-back for the red carpet
Way TOO laid-back for the red carpet

We don't even know where to start with this one. These Diane von Furstenberg separates are not a red carpet appropriate choice at all; it's like librarian with a wild side meets Emirates cabin crew.

Meh: Ayesha Omar

Ironic that the woman who took home the trophy for Most Stylish TV Actress the night of the awards failed to show up in a memorable outfit. Let us rephrase, it wasn't so much that her dress wasn't nice, it just wasn't the one for her.

We say this with love because Ayesha has a very lean and dainty build and these ruffles are just kind of drowning her. A form-fitting long gown would have been a better choice or even a power suit for that matter.

Nay: Iqra Aziz

Too much cake fondant!

Okay, this just looked like she dyed her dress from last year’s LSAs and hoped that no one would notice. And if we had to pick one, we preferred the white ensemble instead.

Yay: Mawra Hocane

Sari not sorry!
Sari not sorry!

Mawra opted for a more traditional look than most of the ladies on the red carpet and wore this elegant nude sari by Indian design house, Label D. She paired it with glowy make-up and larger than life ear baubles. Sold!

Nay: Mansha Pasha

We wanted to like this, we really did particularly because it's one of Pasha's own creations (we hear she's working on her own clothing line!) but sadly, it looks more like a bridesmaid dress than something you wear on award night.

Meh: Hania Amir

She could've done something fun with her hair or makeup at the very least
She could've done something fun with her hair or makeup at the very least

Hania Amir is having her moment in the sun post Parwaz Hai Junoon's success but the actress is having a tough time making a name for herself in sartorial department. Yet another uninspiring red carpet look from her; this Nomi Ansari creation may have worked for prom but not so much for a glitzy night out.

She was also wearing her hanger loop on one shoulder for half the evening so there's that...

Yay: Osman Khalid Butt

The only male celeb who wore something memorable!
The only male celeb who wore something memorable!

Bless this man for always experimenting with his look and also getting it right 90% of the time. Ace designer styled Butt for the HSAs in this head-to-toe cobalt blue look which we're digging. We're also fans of that quirky tie!

OKB never disappoints, which is why this is basically us every time he appears on our newsfeed:

Obi being Obi.😂😍❤ @aclockworkobi #OsmanKhalidButt #HumStyleAwards #HSA18

Nay: Aamna Ilyas

Aamna IS the red carpet here with this crazy overdose of in your face red.

Nay: Sonya Hussyn

We give props to Hussyn for always trying something new and at least attempting to do something out of the box. While her braid is basically summer hair goals and that make-up made us do a double-take, we're not fans of that Barney purple dress.

Also who even wears ear cuffs anymore?

Are these Pakistani models and actresses ? do they think Pakistani dresses don't look good on them or they don't have the confidence on Pak dresses? Why so western?

Yuck! These 'actresses' can't carry an evening gown in their dreams! Whatever happened to the traditional Pakistani outfits which are beautiful and elegant. Why are these people living, earning and acting in Pakistan but when the time comes for glory, they display their bad tastes in western gowns not made for their body types. Pakistan has some amazing designers showcasing eastern wear at it's best all year long but look at what the so called 'Pakistani' actresses prefer to wear when its time to shine..........Shame on them all!
