It's about time women in Pakistan know about their legal rights in the country.

Two-time Academy Award winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy has launched a new animated short Aagahi which aims to educated women in the country about the rights they hold.

Aagahi which literally translates to awareness, and is a public service campaign and its first episode 'How to Register an FIR', is out.

The 2.30 minute clip walks the audience through the crimes and procedure to register an official FIR with the local police department in Pakistan.

The video is in Urdu and contains English subtitles.

Aagahi is a seven-month project in which 14 animated shorts will be released under the SOC films banner. The educational videos will be 2-3 minutes long and be narrated in Urdu (by Aaminah Sheikh) and other regional languages. They will explain and clarify the legislations which affect women; and give an overview of how the legal provisions granted to them may be applied.

The series aim to touch upon the most commonly asked questions: how to file an FIR, what does the law state on instances of domestic violence, divorce, cyber-crimes and inheritance and what is the procedure for reporting issues like these and who should be approached for help.

The development in women rights sector has already being done by various social welfare and women welfare organisations, NGOs, state department and journalists etc. However, some people want their own projection than to actually do anything for women welfare. The intentions of such people are just to bring themselves to limelight and pretend as if they are the only ones who care about the welfare women of Pakustan. These fame hungry people just work in newspapers & magazines with photo sessions and documentaries. They take out they rotten laundry of the country and project a negative image of Pakistan in the western countries especially USA. They earn awards and undue projection there. This is their only bread & butter now. People of Pakistan should strongly oppose and stop them doing this nonsense anymore.

Bravo! Can you please make sure this is distributed widely. We need to show these kinds of films to everyone. the more people who make them the better we should also show these in schools

A worthy effort. An effective guide on how to register an FIR. This should be shown on prime time TV. For far too long this process has been kept in obscurity, made difficult so that crimes have been under reported. It is important not only for women to know what to do but also important for men to know that Pakistan's women will no longer remain silent. At the same time there should be an official procedure on what to do if the police refuse to register an FIR. Not to have to rely on the media. Further there needs to be a public information guide on how to register a public services or governance complaint with your local government representative and how to make your MPA work for you. In addition a programme on how they are supposed to manage your case or grievance. And if they don't, what recourse there is for remedy that does NOT include hiring a lawyer at private expense. This has to remain within the remit of the contract of obligations between the citizen and the state

The best way to educate Pakistani women is do mornging show done in the format of USA mornging show with different segments ,about health ,beauty,legal rights,etc! These two hrs are totally wasted by the tv media the way the are currently doing mornging shows! Plus, not enough to know the legal rights,they women needs skills sets, on living!
