Nabeel Qureshi pleads Pakistan's moviegoers to not record films on their mobile phones

The Load Wedding director says people are uploading film excerpts on social media

Going to the movies is growing as a pastime in Pakistan but some basic cinema etiquettes still elude our audience.

Like, not recording the film on their cellphones, perhaps?

Load Wedding director Nabeel Qureshi tweeted yesterday that people have been recording film excerpts using their mobile phone cameras and then uploading the clips on social media.

People are trying to justify the behaviour as a show of excitement

Or a way to impress their friends

Nabeel insists that such actions are "illegal and unethical" and contribute to film piracy. Whipping out your mobile phone in the cinema for any purpose — making phone calls, texting and particularly recording the film being screened — is a no-no, also because it's distracting for other members of the audience. Here's hoping this doesn't become a trend. .

It is not convenient to record moves off the screen when they are all available online by various outlets just for free and at high quality recordings.

About time our film industry should learn how to make money from legal streaming services like Netflix and Amazon video. Bollywood has been so good at it, you can find 40 year old indian movies on various streaming services but not a single Pakistani movie. Its a challenge for us to get hold of a Pakistani movie if its not in the cinema anymore. We want to pay to watch it but unfortunately they are not available anywhere.

@seema actually it does matter, in the US intellectual property laws allow you to play a short jingle for a few seconds, I think its 7 seconds, but i could be wrong, without need for permission. This is basic law, but you can google for more accuracy. As a Muslim I would never ever play something from an illegal course, not saying i have not done it, but now I try not to do it... including watching pirated movies...PG13 or even for my kids, they beg me, but i tell them no, its someones elses property and its like we are stealing.

As Muslims we should never watch bootlegged movies shows etc, it is theft plain and simple, be a nice person and subscribe to netflix or watch on legal platforms. It pains me that decent people who would otherwise never steal, find no problem watching pirated copies or illegal internet channels, its wrong and its the same as stealing if the producer of the show has not allowed. Its unethical, immoral and un islamic. We should rise up and be better than that.
