Sadaf Kanwal is not happy with the Pakistani movies she watched on Eid

Azaadi star Sonya Hussyn defended her own release on the model's Facebook status but Sadaf wasn't really buying it

If you went out to watch one of the new Pakistani releases over the Eid holidays and left the cinema disappointed, you're not alone.

Model and actor Sadaf Kanwal has a bone to pick with local filmmakers. Taking to social media, Kanwal did not hold back on the savagery, writing: "Are only the same 2 directors going to give us good, entertaining films every year? What is everybody else even doing? Seriously, worst 3 days for the films."

Sonya Hussyn, whose debut flick Azaadi was also amongst the movies released on Eid, responded on the post, stating "we need to understand that there are different genres when it comes to film-making" and the fact that most shows are sold out is a success in itself.

But Sadaf did not hold back from speaking her mind, rightly pointing out that maybe, just maybe the fact that Bollywood films were banned on Eid contributed to all shows being sold out.

She replied, "I understand where you’re coming from and I agree, every film cannot be a comedy but at the same time if we’re going to go another route, which I’m totally for, we need to learn to execute that idea and sadly, we didn’t. As for those specific films being sold out, that’s amazing! But if the Indian films weren’t banned this weekend I really don’t think those films would have been sold out."

Your move, Sonya.

Every day is not an Eid day. Let us wait to see normal releases of good promise.

Sometimes you have to shut off the noise to focus on our own voice. Same could be true for Indian movies in India... if Pakistani movies were not banned, their own movies would sell less...

she has the right to express her views, being in showbiz herself. this should be taken as positive feedback because if she also points out what exact flaws in execution / direction / storyline / acting etc she noticed that turned her off...maybe those areas can be improved upon in future.

Dont know which movies is Sadaf coming from. I watched 7 Din Mohobat in which was great fun to watch. Azadi and Wajood were not released in the UK or US so cant say anything about them but Azadi is also a hit. Plus new film makers made movies like Cake, Motor Cycle Girl and Verna which were not Eid releases but they did great business. They were not made by same film makers.
