Did you know? Earlier in October this year, Pakistani designer Natasha Kamal made her debut at Paris Fashion Week!
Kamal, who is steadily gaining a foothold in the local market with her contemporary designs, was invited to showcase her work in Paris as part of PFW's exclusive event Sommet Internationale de La Mode (SIM). With the theme 'Paris Fashion Week for Peace', SIM showcased haute couture designs from 14 different designers from across the globe.
Natasha Kamal was invited to represent Pakistan after being awarded the 1st place Luxury Award by Djamila Kerdoun (President and Founder of DK Ambassador and Sommet Internationale de la Mode) and Yamna Aghrib (Special Juror and Brand Ambassador to LVMH) at Torino Fashion Week in July this year. Clearly, she's been on a roll!
What was it like to show at Paris Fashion Week? We ask Natasha.
"Showcasing in Paris was a huge milestone for me- that too on invitation!" gushed Natasha in conversation with Images. "It also taught me how to be prepared for a showcase on an international platform, which is quite daunting as your resources are limited."
At her show on October 4, Natasha showcased 10 couture gowns, which, while were Western in design, featured Eastern craftsmanship.
Natasha explained, "Although I have showcased western collections in Pakistan, I have never focused on couture gowns for the runway... I got to display the beautiful complexity and detail-oriented craftsmanship of Pakistan at the fashion hub of the world."
But this opportunity offered more than just a catwalk debut to Natasha.
The designer added, "Apart from showcasing, this event allowed me to network with a lot of other designers and local press. They also arranged meetings with LVMH and Loewe Brand ambassadors. It was an overwhelming experience to showcase to an entirely new market and receive such a positive response and appreciation."
With an award on hand and a head buzzing with ideas post-Paris Fashion Week, Natasha is not done for the year.
She revealed to Images, "At the moment I am focusing on a new luxury pret collection [for the Pakistani market] that I plan on releasing by the end of this month."
