Ranveer Singh is giving off major Khal Drogo vibes in the new Padmavati trailer

No wonder Rani Padmini (Deepika Padukone) and Rawal Ratan (Shahid Kapoor) look terrified for their fate

Judging from its trailer, the latest Sanjay Leela Bhansali film promises to be a visual treat. But then again, don't they all?

Another testament to the filmmaker's attention to detail: The Padmavati trailer was unveiled exactly at 13:03 pm today. For those of you who don't know, 1303 AD was when the eight-month long siege of Chittor by Sultan Alauddin Khilji (played by Ranveer Singh) took place.

The period drama revolves around the Rajput ruler of Mewar, Rawal Ratan (Shahid Kapoor) and his wife, Rani Padmavati (Deepika) and how the obsessive and blood-thirsty Turkic ruler of the Delhi Sultanate, Khilji wreaks havoc in their lives when he becomes smitten with the Rani.

Deepika and Shahid have surprisingly good chemistry onscreen

With minimal dialogues, all three leads look ethereal in the three-minute trailer. While Shahid and Deepika look every bit the royal couple they're meant to portray, Singh takes the cake as the violent ruler, giving off major Khal Drogo vibes in certain frames. Interestingly enough, he doesn't even have one line in the teaser.

WIll Padmavati be able to fill the Game of Thrones void in our hearts, at least for a little while?

Padmavati is based on folklore so we already know the movie doesn't have a happy ending. Choosing honour, Padmini and the other women of Chittor killed themselves by leaping into a fire – a practice called jauhar when they realised the war against Khilji could not be won.

The movie is slated for release on 1 December.

pity that they cant present an original work even in a so called historical happening. Always copying hollywood.

Movies should be released simultaneously in Pakistan as well.

Both the stories have no corelations. Padmavati is story of Khilji's obsession with the queen and how the queen emolated herself at the end.

@fairy You are absolutely correct. Its high time that Hindi films need pakistani film industry's instructions to create a movie that has a global appeal.

Indian movies have taken up to a certain level since Bahubali. Almost all of them these days are created on grand budgets with grandeur illustrated.

@fairy Pity you need to find something which is non existent. Every industry doesn't function like Lollywood.

@Arian Yes. Bansali should take expertise from Syed Noor and his masterpeice movie Chain Aye Na for global appeal.

Seems more like Baji Rao Mastani sequal. All of Sanjay Leela Bhansalis movies seem the same eg Ram Leela, Devdas and now this.

If you saw image of Alauddin Khilji on google he is quite handsome person but director portray him as savage dothrakhi. This shows that they will ruin the history in this movie.
