A residency program for young, talented artists is kicking off in Karachi today.

Called ISL Artists in Residence, the program offers six emerging artists — namely, Aamir Habib, Ehsan Memon, Fahim Rao, Mahbub Jokhio, Safdar Ali and Yasser Vayani — mentorship by leading art figures like Amin Gulgee, Asma Mundrawala and Munawar Ali Syed as they create fresh artworks during their residency period.

The program, which is sponsored by International Steels Limited (ISL), is being facilitated by Canvas Art Gallery and renowned gallery director Sameera Raja.

Raja supported the idea behind the residency, saying “Art and culture are the cornerstones upon which societies evolve and it is heartening to find a patron of arts in ISL, who is conscious of the need to promote art and who provides an enabling environment for emerging artists to express their artistic ingenuity”.

ISL Artists in Residence will culminate in an Open Day in August where the artists’ work will be displayed at ISL premises.
