Rakesh Roshan says India should resume film export to Pakistan

The Bollywood producer says this in the wake of the release of his film Kaabil in Pakistan
03 Feb, 2017

Kaabil became the first Indian film to screen in Pakistan since the informal ban on Bollywood was enforced in late September, and the film's producer Rakesh Roshan appears to be most pleased.

In conversation with IANS, he said that since Pakistan is now welcome to Indian content, Indians also must move up:

"All I want to say is that if Pakistan has opened their arms, we should also move forward."

His statement is a reference to a reluctance on Indian distributors' part to export films to India.

In an interview with Dawn in late December, Pakistani film distributor/exhibitor Nadeem Mandviwala had said that the resumption of Indian films screening "can take days, weeks and even months" because Indian distributors have to first agree to sell films to Pakistan. He shared that "a debate has [already] begun in India about it."

Karan Johar's Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, which starred Fawad Khan in an extended cameo role and released in October 28, is the next Bollywood film to join Kaabil on Pakistani screens. Shah Rukh Khan's Raees has also been obtained from India, but the exact date of its screening is unclear at this point.

Not Roshan but the money is speaking. I do not think there is broad agreement in India on this issue. But then even for these producers money may not be much of a matter in Pakistan but fame among 110 million people is irresistible. That is more than any money.

@Awesome Lyrics Pakistani actors worked in Bollywood because they was a demand for them. They were banned due to national sentiment and Pakistani actors should not make money in India . so where is the national sentiment when they are willing to screen there movies here

@Awesome Lyrics how can there ever be demand for movies from Pakistan in India when they are always banned from screening in India. there is demand in Pakistan for Bollywood because they have been screened. why don't they open the Indian market to Pakistani movies and see if there is a demand in few years time

@Viku sorry but I would suggest you watch zindabagh, shah , dukthar and tell me how are they not up to the mark. Not all Bollywood movies are up to the mark to be honest yet they are released in Pakistan as I said before give the audience the chance to decide if they want to watch them or not.

@Viku mahira has been accepted by Indian audience in movies regardless of reviews in Raees. One of the reason was the serials. Same is true for fawad. So if India allows Pakistani content to air in India like it happens here people audience will develop for the movies as well. please see movies like Shah, zindabhag , manto and see if all of them are up to the mark
