After years of concerts and movie soundtracks, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan went back to school.

And not just any school. Rahat was at Oxford yesterday to receive an honorary shield from the world-famous university.

He also performed at one of the university's most historic venues, the Holywell Music Room.

The Holywell Music Room is "the oldest music room of Europe, made in the 17th century, which was specially opened up for Khan sahab," shared his PR rep. "The biggest composers and musicians of the UK & Europe of the last three centuries have made music in that room. It's historically a very prestigious place."

He received quite the warm reception when he arrived:

Rahat's performance was part of a pre-planned jamming session with the Fusion Project, an ensemble of students from Oxford University who strive to revive and make accessible the beauty of Indian Classical Arts, reports Asian Image.

The Fusion Project's latest track was a mash-up of Eddie Vedder’s 'Hard Sun' and 'Allah Hoo', one of the most iconic tracks from the repertoire of Rahat's legendary uncle, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. So it's no surprise that the budding musicians were thrilled to have Rahat there to sing with them.
