PEMRA issues notice to Urdu1 for indecent scenes in Ye Hain Mohabbatein

Updated 04 Jun, 2016

PEMRA has issued a notice to Urdu1 for indecent scenes in one of the shows it broadcasts, Ye Hain Mohabbatein.

The show is a Balaji Telefilms production that was originally broadcast on Star Plus. The serial revolves around a man named Raman Bhalla who divorces his wife Shagun after he discovers her affair with his boss. The drama follows the ups and downs of the love lives of these central characters.

In the most recent episode, broadcast on June 1, the characters are shown engaged in acts of intimacy, which is in violation of the Electronic Media Ordinance 2015. PEMRA has thus served the below notice to the channel Urdu 1.

According to the notice, PEMRA received complaints about the show on its Twitter handle @reportpemra and call centre; the complaints said that the scenes were too inappropriate to watch with one's family.

The notice further said that PEMRA had given a warning to Urdu1 for the broadcast of similarly indecent content when it aired the show Aashiana Meri Mohabbat in 2015.

Urdu1 has till June 18 to respond to PEMRA's notice.

PEMRA had earlier served a notice to HUM TV for the portrayal of immoral activities in child abuse drama Udaari.

Majority of Pakistan is a conservative country. Showing Indian Bollywood movies and Star drama serials full of nudity is completely opposite to Pakistani culture.

There should be a parental guidance index on each tv play to avoid any awkward situation. TV plays are watched mostly in homes. Plays produced in foreign countries should be checked by pemra before going on air.

Pakistani channels have touched the lows of low in decency and morality! There are no checks and balances! What a shame!

This is an old argument. We are proud of our value and how we project them. There is a thin line between freedom of expression and vulgarity. I miss our lovely role models Fatima Surayya Bajya, Ashfaq Ahmad and imagine what they would have said!!

There are more important issues in Pakistan to be addressed than spending money on PEMRA agency for censorship. Use PEMRA resources to monitoring government schools if teachers shows up in remote area or actually exists or not, and giving quality education to tong students the back bone of nation. The ghost government schools are hurting Pakistan more, than some scenes on TV which need monitoring.

@Hitesh "Still in the stone age?" There were no cloths in stone age and list can go on, so the answer to your question is that we are tying to remain in civilized age.

Put a limit to Indian dramas, who anyway watches them, their plots are stuck in 1990s

@Hitesh to set the record straight man once lived as nomads with no concept of society, had physical relationship with any one at will. Nudity was the norm as we evolved we started to cover our selves. NOW some socities like the west and India not far behind is bent upon going back to the stone age. We Pakistanis just want to keep moving forward.

Finally, PEMRA acts. TV channels should not beam such stuff straight in our homes where families are watching TV together.

The problem with Pakistan is that Pakistanis LOVE institutions to be their Abbas and Ammas. Rather than being adults themselves and choosing what to do and what not to do. People in Pakistan clap with Joy when PEMRA uses its people given powers to clamp down on what people in Pakistan widely perceive as Vulgar. However, since PEMRA is after all a Pakistan institution it frequently abuses its powers to clamp down on anything it feels like clamping down on. This is why the FINAL decision of what to watch and accept should be in the hands of the People. Not some institution.

Morality is an individual affair and not any business of the government or its agencies. The government should focus on governance and not on controlling what people see or do not see on TV. Those who think that any TV program is immoral as per their individual standards, have an option to change the channel

Why Indian programs on Pakistani channels without any censorship. Freedom of media has some limits within culture values of Pakistan. PEMRA should watch guidelines.

Complain is all we do. All over the world there is a system of rating which is helpful for people to determine what can be watched with kids. Even Indian movies now occasionally have ratings. However' most importantly it is the parent responsibility to ensure that the content their children are watching is appropriate. I do not understand how young children as young as 8-9 are allowed to watch and sing songs like Sheila ke jawani and the likes. Where are the parents then. Just to update people that the authors of these dramas do concoct stories out of thin air. These things do happen. If the people complaining are so morally incorruptible they should stop watching such things. They should watch discovery and history channels. Stop putting your garbage on others door. Your family and children are your own responsibility not PEMRA.

Please please please Pemra request for a complete ban on "Dora" its spoiling our kids language and ability to take initiative rather they would start believing that they could achieve they want to by using some magical powers rather than vision and hard work. Original version of Disney channel would be a better option.

@jamal Thanks for your valuable comment. I agree to your point for a society where there are no emergencies. When you go to emergency in hospital, then the doctors first prioritize cases which needs immediate attention, and one with minor medical needs wait for their turn. Just like Swat earthquake every one helped the victims not just left on few government agencies. Currently our education needs most immediate attention, as we failed as a society to produce high school graduates across country to bring talents in to the national pool. The pool of talents from city schools already left country for better opportunities, just like our businessman investments to other countries. Other choice is to go with Zarb eAzab for betterment of education.
