What will you wear this Eid? Here's a style guide for every occasion

With Elan bringing flared pants back and Nida Azwer reinventing the peshwas, you have a lot to choose from
Updated 29 Jun, 2016

With countless designers churning out new collections every other week, it can be a little overwhelming trying to decide your Eid outfit. A big part of getting it right is dressing for the occasion; you're obviously not going to wear the same outfit for dinner at Dadi's that you would wear to brunch with the gal pals.

Fret not, we have just the guide for you!

For the newly wed going to her in-laws' house: Elan

Too snazzy to wear otherwise, the Elan Eden collection this year seems to be tailor made for new blushing brides. Sticking to what they know best, expect a lot of floral detailing and prints adorned generously with crystals. Although the pricing is not for the faint-hearted, these pieces are semi-formal and versatile and surely can be utilized on other occasions too.

Thankfully, the collection, which looks heavy, uses lighter fabrics such as chiffon and cotton-net so you can beat the heat while looking like a million bucks! The fashion house always has its finger on the pulse of what silhouettes are making their way back and it is evident that Khadija Shah of Elan is determined to bring back the flared pants.

Our favourite piece(s): We're liking the hemlines short and the pant width wide.

For brunch at a friend's place: Mahgul

The new kid on the block has been making waves recently with her quirky yet modern cuts and striking colours; you can tell a Mahgul piece from miles away. Her subdued use of colour for her Eid collection is sure to make you look effortlessly chic and perfect for an occasion while the sun is still out!

While keeping things simple, Mahgul doesn't completely neglect the risk-taker client. We spotted some particularly eye-catching borders on the bottoms!

Our favourite piece: This pearl white overlap summer jacket (which you can pair with some statement jewellery) and these shamrock green trousers with bold threadwork.

For the big annual Eid daawat at your grandma's place: Farah Talib Aziz

Nothing is better suited for the girly girl than a FTA ensemble. Sleek cuts, coupled with subtle, floral embroidery make this collection highly coveted.

Again, the price tag is steep but the pieces are practical in the sense that they can be worn in an Eastern and Western manner. The pastel hues ranging from cool mint, peachy pink and lavender are sure to give you a wholesome look and bag you the best dressed lady award in the fam. If it's a big affair, expect some rishtas!

Our favourite piece: The mint off the shoulder kaftan style shirt (R) for the less conservative family and the lilac kameez if you don't want to show off too much skin (L)

OR: Nida Azwer

Nida Azwer Atelier launched three capsule collections for Eid this year and although the prints are loud, they still managed to be not so in your face because the fabric is breezy and soft, keeping the summer heat in mind.

Azwer says, "We have slightly changed our signature peshwas with this collection as far as the hemline is concerned, to complement its vintage charm, yet give a small twist for the season”.

For someone who likes to keep traditional yet fierce, Nida Azwer provides the perfect solution.

Our favourite piece: The white peshwas with the uneven hemline. (R)

For the kitty party shindig: Nazli Akbar

Nazli Akbar's photoshoots are what kitty party dreams are made of. Did you know that Nazli is makeup maestro Shamain's sister? No wonder the ladies in her Eid lookbook look so on point.

Her collection is based on dessert-based pastels and proves that pearls are a girl's best friend too! Using single colours, Nazli adds dimension to her outfits with pleats and different sheer fabrics. The designer maintains her exclusivity by only producing a few items of the same design, which fly off the rack like hot cakes!

Our favourite piece: We can't possibly pick one -- The entire collection is to die for!

For that late night coffee sesh with cousins: Misha Lakhani

Misha's designs have always embodied a sense of relaxed elegance and her latest Izmir pret collection for Eid is no different. The holiday inspired pieces are for the boho IT girl to kick back in.

It's also a refreshing break from the lighter colours most have opted for keeping the season in mind; Misha doesn't shy away from using bright colours that pop such as emerald green and royal blues, balancing it out with shades of beige or terracotta.

Our favourite piece: This blue Ottoman inspired (L) and off the shoulder striped (R) kurta
