Veteran Indian actor Alok Nath, accused of rape and harassment by writer/producer Vinta Nanda and former co-stars Sandhya Mridul and Navneet Nishan, has been expelled from the Cine and TV Artistes’ Association (CINTAA), reports Times of India.

CINTAA issued a notification on Twitter:

The notification comes after Alok Nath was a no-show at a meeting with CINTAA in which his accuser Vinta Nanda was also present.

CINTAA functions as a trade union that looks after the rights of the members of the entertainment industry.

Vinta expressed her gratitude to CINTAA for taking her complaint seriously:

The Indian press claims that the expulsion could spell the end of Alok Nath's career.

In-fact whole Bollywood knew about his misconduct but no action was taken as they were very reluctant about it and taken it as normal. However, 'better late than never'. And thanks to the courageous woman who dared to speak the truth.

Guilty should be punished.

Its commendable to see Bollywood punish him despite no circumstancial evidence against him and his defamation case depending in court. Wish our stars and media association does the same in case of Meesha.

Good move. Now people like him will think twice before harassing women.

For this guy only expelling is not enough. Jail term is the most solicited after repeated crime.

@Jeevan Karkera It requires evidence which is missing here, not just verbal statements.

While the action taken by CINTAA is commendable, it amounts to a media trial and conceptually not very far from lynching. I am not speaking for either side, but it would have been better if CINTAA could have waited for actual judiciary's verdict before expelling Alok Nath. So, let's say another three people will say Vinta did something bad to them, will Vinta too be expelled without corroborating the evidence?

No means no, that’s it but also taking eastern cultural considerations maybe the question should not have been asked.

I just love the image that dawn is using for Aloknath. Sanskarri bapuji with a tilak, traditional clothes and innocence on his face! what a wolf he is, so good to hear that is thrown out. Something is better than nothing.
