AR Rahman has finally issued a statement on the MeToo movement in Bollywood.

The award-winning musician took to Twitter to share his sentiments.

"Been observing the MeToo Movement... some of the names have shocked me...both the victims and their perpetrators... I would love to see our industry become cleaner and respectful of women.. more power to all the victims coming forward," wrote Rahman.

He added that his team strives to create an environment which is a "safe creative space" for everyone.

The singer ended his note by saying, "Social media offers great freedom for victims to speak up, however, we should be careful in creating a new internet justice system, in case it's misused."

Following Tanushree Dutta's account of sexual harassment at the hands of Nana Patekar during the shoot of a song sequence, multiple women in Bollywood have gained the courage to come forward with their MeToo stories. Directors like Sajid Khan, Vikas Bahl and others have been outed by their peers.
