What do Imran Khan and Peshawar Zalmis have in common? Shoes!

Chacha Noorudin, gifted a pair of his famous Kaptaan chappal to each teammate and they loved it!

The Peshawar Zalmis just got a wonderful surprise right before the Pakistan Super League kicks off tomorrow.

Chacha Noorudin, the shoemaker known for his Peshawari chappals, decided to gift the team with special 'Kaptaan chappals' which he's previously made for Imran Khan.

“I designed more than 40 pairs of the Peshawari Chappal for all the players and the team management in three colors – brown, mustard, and tiger print. Since we could get their exact foot sizes, we managed to complete the task in time,” Noorudin, 60, told Arab News.

He flew down to Karachi to personally give the shoes to the team and they all clearly loved them!

Chacha Noorudin has been designing the Peshawari chappal since 1976 but it was when he designed a pair for PM Khan that he acquired fame for his craft. Since that time, he also refers to the design as Kaptaan chappals, which are now a fashion must-have.

This type of shoe is no longer associated with the Pakistani identity. It is now identified with one ethnicity only and is being promoted as the ethnic footwear. Even Imran Khan is wearing it for a reason because of the same ethnic affiliation. People of Sindh and Punjab will stop wearing them in the near future because of this ethnic push.

@Concerned that's some preposterous reasoning. These are embedded into the Pakistani culture just like sindh topi and shalwar.

@ Concerned, I don't see any ethnic identity crisis with promotion of Chappal. It has always been known as Peshawari Chappal or just Chappal through out Pakistan for decades. Just like Punjab's Khoosa or Zarri Chappal, worn on weddings or Eid day, people don't see it as ethnic link, these are all Pakistani footwear. We should promote them Internationally as well.

@Concerned ofcourse it's called "Peshawari chappal" for a reason. No one can deny that fact. It is from that region of Pakistan and wore by all Pakistanis. Similarly, Sindhi Ajraak is also a fashion statement wore by majority of Pakistanis.

@Concerned Of course it is associated with Pakistani identity since it belongs to one of the dominant races of Pakistan. I wear them sometimes even though I am not Pashtun the same way I sometimes wear a Sindi Ajrak though I am not Sindhi or my wife wears a Baluchi style Shalwar though she is not Baluchi . Lots of Pashtun wear the Pakol hat even though it is from Chitral and it does not bother them because only the lungi is traditional Pashtun head gear. You are trying to make a big issue of nothing since a guy is just promoting native foot wear from one province.

@ Dawn staff. Why do you always censor my comments? All I stated was that there is nothing wrong with promoting Peshawari chappal, in response to what commenter Concerned had stated. You never post any of my comments. Is there a reason?????
