Model Rubbab Ali drops out of the Lux Style Awards

She is the seventh nominee to withdraw from the award show
Updated 24 Apr, 2019

Model Rubbab Ali is joining several of her industry peers in opting out from participating in the Lux Style Awards.

"I encourage everyone reading this (nominated, interested or a fan) to speak up against sexual harassment in our society," she said as she announced her decision on social media.

"I've been in this industry for 8 years and it makes me sick in my stomach to see the kind of casual harassment and inappropriate behaviour towards women that gets excused in the name of social 'norms'," said Rubbab.

She added, "LSA [has] the right to nominate whoever they deem appropriate - but as artists and public figures we also have a responsibility to speak up against those who perpetuate injustices against women.

"And finally - we have to support each other. If you are reading this and have your own sexual harassment story to tell - please speak up! We cannot sit back and just watch. Nothing changes until you stand up for yourself and those around you."

Rubbab is the seventh nominee to pull out from the LSA race this year in protest of the inclusion of an alleged sexual harasser in the nominations. Other nominees who have requested to be removed include model Eman Suleman, clothing brand Generation, makeup artist Saima Bargfrede, singer Meesha Shafi, folk rock band The Sketches and makeup artist Fatima Nasir.

Good move. We will not follow the path of the US by endorsing this kind of disgusting behaviour even at the highest levels of power, as they have done by voting in a man like Trump. This is Pakistan's chance to forge its own path, and to look after its women - it deserves support from all Pakistanis.

Those not sure to make it or sure not to make it to podium are pulling out. Case is sub judice with no one still convicted. A clear attempt to affect the case.

Those who have withdrawn their nominee should be ashamed of themselves to support baseless allegations. Such people do not deserve any respect nor any considerstion for any award or accolades whatsoever!!!!

The movement is growing - the struggle is real. So very proud of these men and women who are standing up for what they believe is right. THAT is not easy in this day and age..

All hails to everyone who has the courage to stand to their viewpoint in such a time where the weak (both men and women) need help from real sexual harassment. This is good! LSA, I hope you as an institution are able to gain the capacity and courage to stand for such issues much like these individuals have.

We should all stand up and support these courageous women who are opting out of award nominations as a protest against an alleged harrasser who has also been nominated. The harrassments against women in entertainment industry must stop.
