Black Friday is here, and even though Thanksgiving and every consumer event that follows is completely unconnected to Pakistan, we must celebrate it.

At least that's what we concluded after checking out the tsunami of Black Friday sales in stores across Pakistan.

Leaving aside the whole issue of the word 'black' being associated with Friday (cough, get over it) we decided to take a close look at exactly WHAT was on sale this weekend.

What we found was pretty funny and sometimes downright weird.

Besides your typical TVs, gaming consoles and water coolers, here's a list of other 'essentials' on markdown right now:

1) A non-surgical nose job

If you hate your face this product might just be for you! This product "slims the bridge of your nose" and at just Rs390, isn't it a steal?

2) A giant flowered sack

Is it a disguise? Camouflage? Or just a very comfortable nightie? We're not sure, and we're probably never going to find out.

3) A super creepy bright smile

We're getting serial killer vibes from this "Flex Top Veneer Cosmetic Teeth for Instant Smile".

Not ok, not ok.

4) This sneaky hack for short people

Slip these into your shoes and raise your height by up to 2 inches! No one will notice.

5) This must-have birthday cake accessory

Because no birthday is complete without a rotating flower petal candle.

6) A lean mean killing machine

With a compass, of course. You'll never miss a shot.

7) Underarm sweat pads to pretend you don't sweat

It "prevents you from sweating" and is "100% risk-free". So if you're worried about sweating in your armpits, which is making you sweat more, these sweat pads will stop the sweating.

In other words, don't sweat it!

8) A scarf for every position

You can wear it in 26 different ways. We're totally impressed by the versatility of this truly amazing scarf!

9) A pretty, pretty useless umbrella

It's an actual umbrella, fully mechanical (it folds n' all), except it's a cotton umbrella so might not be ideal for stormy weather.

10) Ummm, lazy glasses?

Can't go to bed without reading a book first? Save yourself the inconvenience of lifting your head with prism spectacles, better known as "lazy glasses".

11) A mouse trap with glue

Because why would seeing a living mouse glued on the floor and trying to escape be a disturbing sight?

Very funny article and well written. However, just a point. An umbrella is not just for rain or stormy weather; it is also used for protection against the sun. In arabic, its called a 'shamsi' from the word "shams" meaning the sun.

A funny article but also raises a 'tongue in cheek' , harsh reality- that so many Pakistani consumers are concerned with crazy and out of control 'Black Friday' shopping. The whole idea is a negative one, created in the 1950s by USA advertising , to increase massive pre-Christmas shopping and rip off people with supposed 'sales' , engendering consumer madness. Such a purely materialistic and vulgar display of wasteful spending doesn't seem to suit a poor country like ours. Where a few rich people can indulge at the expense of the vast majority living in atrocious conditions. Its ironic, how our mullahs are so keen to ban a 'Western' festival like Valentine's Day but don't mind Black Friday.

Well Friday Should never be black,at least in Pakistan. If brands are operating in Pakistan they should respect the true concepts of right and wrong which are prevalent in our society as it might increase their sales(better for them).I have seen brands like breakout changing their deals from black friday on first day to something else on the second day.Our writer seems too engrossed in concepts of right and wrong promoted by the west.Every single trend is not meant to be followed.I believe there is nothing wrong in a little bit of local adaptation of concepts.
