Bollywood ban ends in Pakistan as Kaabil begins screening

Actor Hrithik Roshan tweeted his delight about the film's release in Karachi
Updated 02 Feb, 2017

Hrithik-Roshan starrer Kaabil screened in Pakistan yesterday, putting an end to the informal ban on Bollywood films in Pakistani cinemas.

The film was screened at Karachi's Atrium Cinemas at 11pm yesterday.

When news of its release reached Hrithik, the actor expressed his delight and hoped that the film will be enjoyed in Pakistan.

The ban on Bollywood in Pakistan was announced by various cinema owners late September in response to the Indian Motion Picture Producers Association (IMPPA)'s ban on Pakistani actors, singers and technicians from working in India till “normalcy” returns. The ban from India was a reaction to the Uri attacks in Kashmir.

Kaabil is a action thriller about a blind man seeking vengeance for his wife's (Yami Guatam) murder. It has been directed by Sanjay Gupta (of Jazbaa fame) and produced by Rakesh Roshan.

@lafanga They can. On the contrary Pakistan's multiplexes can't survive without Bollywood films because Pakistan's film industry doesn't churn out large number of films like India due to lack of Production houses.

Hardly any Bollywood movie and TV soaps depicts reality, But I have seen Pakistani serials, they are superb and closer to reality. Suddenly thoughts come to mind, "arey hamare India me bhi tho exactly yahi traditions ur culture hai".

A good step,a zephyr,a ray of hope & happiness after long time. Films and celebrities always disseminate love, peace, education, amongst neighbors, normally the end of each Hindi film is positive, and people surely learns a lesson, how an evil force 'villain'got defeat by lovely force 'hero'besides lovely gorgeous heroins promote beauty,a sense of betterness, and young people got incensed love sharings, and they tilt towards love and sweet environment instead of hate or violence. Let the people of Pakistan & India to live in peace, and love ,and repel the hatred, fanatics, hawks, from their ranks. PML(N) has taken a bold step, objections are expected, but it should stick to its stand firmly.

it@lafanga Its the other way round. Pakistan cinema houses cannot survive without Indian films. They have suffered enough losses. India can definitely survive. The population in India is so huge that it does not require outside help to see movies. Nobody asked the Pakistan govt. to lift the ban on Indian movies. It was the losses suffered by them that prompted the action.
