Om Puri's post-mortem report reveals the actor suffered a head injury

It had been previously reported that he died of a heart attack

New details have emerged about veteran actor Om Puri's death a few days after his demise.

According to Mumbai Mirror, the police have registered a case of accidental death after the post-mortem report, revealing that his death was not natural as previously reported. When police arrived at Om Puri's residence on Friday, he was found lying on the floor with a sharp injury on his head.

"We suspect that Puri died of heart attack. However, it'll be confirmed after viscera report. After suffering from a cardiac arrest, he might have fallen causing the injury on his forehead. He was alone at home and there was no sign of forced entry. At this stage, we have ruled out possibility of any foul play," said a senior officer of Mumbai Police.

Producer Khalid Kidwai claims to have been with Puri a few hours before he passed away and shared that the 66-year-old star really wanted to meet his son Ishan on that particular day.

"We (Kidwai and Om Puri) went to Trishul building where his ex-wife Nandita lives with Ishan but were unable to meet them as they had gone out to a party. Om Puri then had an argument over the phone with Nandita and asked them to come soon as he wanted to meet his son," read the statement.

"He poured a drink in his glass and waited for almost 45 minutes at Nandita's flat but when they didn't turn up, he took the glass and liquor bottle and started drinking in the car. After finishing the drink, we left," added Kidwai's statement.

Worlds largest democracy , secular state what a joke.

maverik Jan 09, 2017 02:24pm

Is Om Puri victim of "Saffron Terror"?

Fredy Jan 09, 2017 02:31pm

My goodnes !!!!! Was that accidental or "non accidental" ?

curious mind Jan 09, 2017 02:46pm

He was a very outspoken and a brave man, he might just been punished for speaking the truth.

Asif Kashmiri Jan 09, 2017 03:02pm

RIP great man - very sad to read this

The end is near Jan 09, 2017 03:02pm

A great actor and a great human being was brutally murdered in the Name of hate in the so-called biggest democracy.

majid Jan 09, 2017 03:10pm

As high profile as this case is, the investigation should be conducted with utmost partiality and without any pressure or biases. Truth must be brought to the fore.

Fandom Beyond the Border Jan 09, 2017 03:12pm

May be Shiv Sena got him assassinated for taking a bold stance against Pakistan bashing.

Taimoor Khan Jan 09, 2017 03:17pm

Clear case of murder. Some really sick minded people are ruling India these days.

Muhammad Ali Jan 09, 2017 03:21pm

Very fishy.....

Apoorv Jan 09, 2017 03:23pm

Is don't think the details should be made public after ones death

Hamza Jan 09, 2017 03:45pm

Oh neighbors! than you say no issue of intolerance there. Anyways, none of our concern. Condolences to his close ones.

Dr Riffat Jabeen Jan 09, 2017 03:53pm

The case must be investigated by neutral investigative agency to find out the actual reasons of his death.

Ak Jan 09, 2017 04:36pm

I am surprised reading comments, It seems not a single one has read article beyond sensational headline..

Murtad Jan 09, 2017 04:55pm

@Faisal Om puris 'alleged murder'....secularism and democracy in India... How did u came up with such analogy.

Ali Jan 09, 2017 05:01pm

An amazing being lost his life because he stood up and got killed instead of being counted.

Nirman Jan 09, 2017 05:09pm

How can you people relate a murder to secularism and governance. No wonder education level is self evident.

Ali Jan 09, 2017 05:23pm

The pro-Pakistan stance that he had taken leads one to think that Mr. Om Puri was murdered and did not die of heart attack.

axis Jan 09, 2017 05:34pm

the police is still investigating the case and said there is no foul play

M-USA Jan 09, 2017 05:35pm

@Faisal ...What? What does it got to do with secular and democratic country?

Bangalorecapri Jan 09, 2017 05:55pm

@Faisal ...your response mystifies me. How can a death which appears to have happened due to an accidental fall and head injury( no forced entry, no foul play suspected say the police) be connected to failure of secularism and democracy???

Ahsan,Karachi Jan 09, 2017 05:58pm

Modi government should on top priority investigate the cause of Om Puri's death

kuku Jan 09, 2017 05:59pm

@asad How do u know?

Umar makhdumi Jan 09, 2017 06:03pm

One of the most broad-minded Indians ever, following the footsteps of Gandhi and Nehru.

Thoroughthinker Jan 09, 2017 06:51pm

Very unfortunate!

N_Saq Jan 09, 2017 07:37pm

I do not want to jump to any conclusion but I had my fears that the man has been silenced as he was a big supporter of India-Pak peace efforts. I hope Indians quickly realize that radicalism is bad and if not checked quickly it will bring down India (Pak is a good example look what these radical has done to a beautiful country). Time to wake up and tackle parties like RSS, Shiv Sina etc.

Pk Jan 09, 2017 08:12pm

Details after his demise the police have registered a case of accidental death suspect that Puri died of heart attack

Sarwar, USA. Jan 09, 2017 08:58pm

RIP.

Madan Jan 09, 2017 08:58pm

He seemed to be depressed because he desperately waited and waited to see his son Ishan but could not see him.Separation from his son killed him.

wellwisher Jan 09, 2017 09:21pm

@Faisal --what it has to do with nation

Talha Jan 09, 2017 09:21pm

@Nirman Your lack of knowledge shows your mental aptitude. Om Puri was all about secularism and wanted India to have peaceful relations with Pakistan which causes extremist Indians to spew venom and hate against him. Some sick minded person might have taken matters a step further which might have caused his death. The story from heart attack to a head wound also raises great suspicion.

Honest Jan 09, 2017 09:39pm

@Faisal. Crazy... What has largest democracy got to do with his personal affairs??

Arun Jan 09, 2017 09:56pm

@Faisal people like you will find fault in a country even in case of natural deaths.

Khilari Jan 09, 2017 09:59pm

Drinking is indeed a bad habit. We lost a gem because of it.

bob saeed Jan 09, 2017 10:20pm

great actor and very good human being.RIP.Condolance to near ones.

Sudhakar USA Jan 09, 2017 10:20pm

@Talha : I suggest you re-read your own statement. "Might have" is only speculation on your part. You seem to know more about the case than the investigating police themselves?

Life Jan 09, 2017 10:28pm

So the cause of death was heart failure or the head injury? If he fell after heart attack, he must be lying where he fell, was there any sharp object there like table, glass etc.

rj zain khan Jan 09, 2017 10:32pm

friends this is not necessary that it was a murder, may be he had heart attack and fell down on the earth and got injured. may be it is a murder for some other reasons related to his personal matters with someone, we should not assume something without any solid reason.

M-USA Jan 09, 2017 10:54pm

@N_Saq ...Dude, this guys drinks like a fish. In the article above it clearly says "He poured a drink in his glass and waited for almost 45 minutes at Nandita's flat but when they didn't turn up, he took the glass and liquor bottle and started drinking in the car"
I guess you just want to blame Indian govt.

M-USA Jan 09, 2017 10:55pm

@Umar makhdumi LOL

Mohan-USA Jan 09, 2017 11:00pm

@Talha ..dude looks like you have problem understanding what is written. It clearly says, he was drinking all the way. Finished entire bottle. What do you expect?

Farah (New York) Jan 09, 2017 11:02pm

He was murdered because he spoke in the favor of Pakistan.

Jawad Jan 10, 2017 01:25am

Killed - In the name of enlightenment. Or at least the price Mr. Puri paid.

Waheed Noor Jan 10, 2017 01:59am

If he was really murdered by Indian Govt, would it be so stupid to leave evidence? Also, would it not have forced the doctor to declare he died of 'heart attack'. His wife left him because of his excessive drinking and his abuse. He probably fell while inebriated and died of his injuries as he lived alone..

Waheed Noor Jan 10, 2017 02:03am

Looking at the comments, people seem to pick only parts which support their conspiracy theories. Indian authorities themselves said they suspect 'no foul play'. Also there were no external injuries except a 'slight would to the head'.

jalaluddsin s. hussain Jan 10, 2017 03:57am

Life was snuffed out of a noble soul. May your soul rest in peace , dear Om Puri!

Ajaya Dutt Jan 10, 2017 06:48am

He was a bold man.

Truth Gazer Jan 10, 2017 06:52am

Non-sensical comments - He was killed by his love and attachment for his son and his ex-wife hitting him where it hurt, namely he not seeing his son as much as he wanted. Sad Sad Sad trend in the world Guys. Family courts know most of the allegations made by ex-wives are not true. Now they have this tool in their hand called domestic violence. And which wife wants to write an auto-biography of her husband and defrocks him. So sad we lost such a wonderful actor.

JP Jan 10, 2017 08:25am

@Talha Among the general public, many people openly show their disagreement with the government. Nothing has happened to them so far. Online abuse is a different matter, you can say those words which you might not use in face to face conversation. Many people supported Pakistan even when it wasn't needed, like manishankar iyer. So Om Puri's opinion was quite mild compared to Iyer's opinion. Don't blame government or pro government people for each and every bad incident in India.

Brar Jan 10, 2017 09:03am

@Talha Better read once again you just read the sensational title only, the policy says no proof of forced entry and the injury may BE due to faling on the Floor. I am always for Indo-pak peace.

Kryptonite Jan 10, 2017 09:19am

@Umar makhdumi Footsteps of Gandhi makes some sense. There is nothing calling footsteps of Nehru. Just FYI.

Azra makhdumi Jan 10, 2017 09:33am

@Umar makhdumi ........Agree 101% wit you Mr Umar Makhdumi...a man always speaak the truth....

Tahir Baloch Jan 10, 2017 11:06am

Another victim of Terror

Leo Jan 10, 2017 11:16am

Shameful for people to talk about foul play. Please let the noble soul to Rest In Peace.

techscribe Jan 10, 2017 11:34am

@maverik That's a conspiracy theory.

SUBASH MOTWANI Jan 10, 2017 12:14pm

very surprising death circumtances of Ompuri that he was alone at his residence.doubtful report.

rahul1 Jan 10, 2017 12:34pm

Faisal, Maverik : - Don't jump the gun - wait for the investigations to get over. Maybe, this was a case strained family relations

zulqi Jan 10, 2017 12:44pm

Om puri ❤

Aadmi Jan 10, 2017 04:28pm

@Apoorv Would you rather that the details are made public before one's death?

sam Jan 11, 2017 08:37am

i am an indian by birth but have settled out of india..i have heaps of indian and pakitsani friends and they speak so good about everyone..however the moment i check any indian news on a pakistani site or a pakistani news on an indian site and read the comments, i see so many of ANTI-peace elements making statements without any knowledge of the subject..Its a shame..shame on all such indians and all such pakistani's who talk only bad about each other

waheed Jan 13, 2017 11:09pm

@majid you mean impartiality

Hari Har Jan 14, 2017 02:37am

A research on google can give better answers to anyone than speculating and politicizing this tragedy. We may be technically or politically two different countries or states made on a two nation theory, however, we remain one people with lots of love and hate between ourselves.
