Modi urged to be like Trump, not let Pakistani artists take Indian jobs

Shiv Sena has asked Indian PM Narendra Modi to prevent Pakistani from 'snatching' jobs in the name of 'friendship'
13 Dec, 2016

Shiv Sena is just not letting this one go.

In an op-ed in their newspaper Saamana, Shiv Sena has asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to protect jobs for ‘sons of the soil’. The op-ed said, “Pakistani artistes, technicians and TV people come to India to earn money, while touting words like friendship and ties. They snatch away livelihood of locals here."

The op-ed went on to encourage Modi to be more like Trump:

“Can India implement a policy like Trump and say that these Pakistanis won’t get a job here and also declare that those who give work to Pakistanis are the enemies of India.”

The new US President Donald Trump had recently said that he would not allow Americans to be replaced by foreign workers, in an apparent reference to cases like that of Disney World and other American companies where people hired on H-1B visas, including Indians, displaced US workers, reports Indian Express.

“What someone like Trump…can do, our PM, who is known as courageous and knowledgeable, can certainly do,” Shiv Sena said, going on to also claim that Trump's move is likely to be inspired by Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray.

Yesterday, Shah Rukh Khan made news for assuring Shiv Sena off-shoot Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray that Pakistani star Mahira Khan will not come to India to promote their film Raees and that he will no longer work with Pakistani talent.

MNS launched a campaign against Pakistani talent after the Uri attacks in Kashmir; however, hostility towards Pakistani actors has previously been observed whenever Pak-India relations get tense.

I mean, why do the artists go there? They end up wasting their time on low B grade movies, and getting involved with some wacko organization's drama. There's plenty of work to be found in Pakistan! These guys have a huge fanbase too. Why risk all of it on Bollywood, only to be disappointed at the end?

That is ridiculous. Artists don't have borders. Moreover, the job of artists are not being exported but are retained in the country. Their talent is unique to individuals. You don't get them, your entertainment value degrades.

Shiva Sena is acting stupid. Also, ironically, while they are part of BJP government in Maharashtra, they have taken every opportunity to take potshots at Modi. But said that, Pakistani artists are a boon to Indian film industry. They don't take jobs, they create jobs. India needs good artists from all over the world. The better the film industry, the bigger would it be, the more jobs it would create. Comparison with Trump is stupid. Modi never opposed foreigners coming to India. It's a non issue in India.

Shiv Sena, as usual, is talking nonsense. In the US, thousands and thousands of jobs have actually been shipped for years to companies operating in off-shore countries based on the so-called "low -cost" model, regardless of the quality of service they are providing, which is below standard in every respect. In comparison, the three or four artists that have worked in India were contacted by the Indian movie directors for roles.

Modi is totally focused on improving India's economy and taking it to next level. He has no time to indulge or intervene in such petty matters which Shiv Sena does for its vote bank. Pakistanis should be rest assured that no common Indian citizen has any interest to see Pak actors leave the country..

Shiv Sena's influence is very very limited. They have some influence in a very small part of Maharashtra, which is one of the 29 states in India. So why make such a big deal about how Shiv Sena may be trying to influence a very independent minded Mr. Modi?
