Actor In Law, Dobara Phir Se screened on Day 1 of Pakistan Film Festival New York

Film screenings aside, the stars got up to some fun during their alone time

The Pakistan Film Festival New York kicked off with a grand red carpet reception on Friday and followed it up with the screening of some Pakistan's most-loved movies, including Mehreen Jabbar's Dobara Phir Se and Nabeel Qureshi's Actor In Law.

Here are some sneak-peeks at Day 1:

It looked like Actor In Law was well-received. Director Nabeel Qureshi was in high spirits after the screening and got silly on stage with his friend, Mawra Hocane.

Both took to the streets after!

Nab Qur took a good old fashioned walk.

Mawra, on the other hand, practised her cab-hailing skills to get a taste of the NY experience.

Side note: Mawra's clutch was on-point! Here's a better look at it.

Looks like people had a questions from the Dobara Phir Se crew! The littlest cast member Musa had lots to say.

Then, the woman-of-the-moment Mehreen Jabbar took the mic.

Meanwhile, in the midst of orchestrating this two-day festival, Frieha Altaf found time for some self-admiration.

The most important aspect of the coverage is missing. The audience. Who came to watch? How many were there? What was their reaction? And btw what is Freiha's association with film? Why is she there? Quality cinema is not coming out of Pakistan and perhaps the govt may be better off setting up a fund to support promising filmmakers instead of organizing oversees events that no one attends.

Went there for 2 days, watched 7 out of 8 movies, chatted & took selfies with my fav stars like Sanam Saeed, Shehryar Khan, Mawra Hocane and many others incl. Maleeha Lodhi & Mehreen Jabbar. It could have been organized better but it was still so much fun.

This should have been given plenty of coverage on the Satellite channels that promote art irrespective of the origin of it. Only getting a limited coverage will not solve the issue of encouraging and boosting the Pakistani film industry. However, the competition will still be tough as Indian cinema has attained worldwide recognition today. Nevertheless, any effort that brings into limelight the achievements of the Pakistani film industry in current times must be commended in the face of stiff cross-border competition.
