Pakistani brands embrace Black Friday: here's a list of sales on right now

With Daraz.pk kicking off the trend by announcing a Black Friday sale local designers decided to join in on the fun!
27 Nov, 2015

For years, we have heard about friends and family braving the cold and battling crowds in the United States to grab unbelievable discounts the day following Thanksgiving, that is Black Friday.

Now, Pakistani stores are finally jumping onto the bandwagon. This year brands across Pakistan are embracing Black Friday as a day to grant shoppers massive markdowns.

Looking at all these Black Friday sales, are we experiencing mild cultural confusion? Yes! Do we care? No!

Here's a definitive list of brands slashing their prices... get ready, set, shop!

1) With Daraz.pk kicking off the trend by announcing their Black Friday website wide sale with discounts going upto 84%, many local designers and stores decided to join in on the fun.

2) Sapphire is having a flat 50% off sale on all items in store, as the brand turns one today.

3) As is Maheen Khan's Gulabo.

4) Beech Tree isn't far behind; they're slashing their prices up to 40%!

5) Get your designer goodies also for up to 40% less at multi-brand store, L'atelier

6) Daraz's sister company, Kaymu will also be hosting a Black Friday sale.

7) Homeshopping.pk is also in on the bargain bonanza, just under a different banner.

8) Gul Ahmed's epic winter clearance sale is also happening this weekend.

9) Misha Lakhani is offering a discount on certain pieces -- spot the hangers with the ribbon on them to know which items have been marked down in store.

10) Multi-brand store Labels is offering a sale online — at their eStore you'll be able to get up to 30% off if you spend a certain amount.

Here's hoping this gains momentum and becomes an annual tradition of our own; we could get used to the retail therapy.

Of course the article fails to mention that most people in the U.S. get a rude awakening in January when the credit card bills roll in after their mad spending spree in Nov and Dec... That's when they start searching for Bankruptcy lawyers!

why we can't have a sale before Eid instead of this event. There is no significance of this day in our country. Just following something for fun and then it becomes a useless trend. NO LOGIC

Why not use such deals for Eid, Independence Day or other traditional holidays? Why just follow US local ideas? Celebrate your own identity

On Eid, these stores almost double their prices and just for blindly following west they are celebrating this day. Do it on Eid if you want to pass on any benefit to common man. And for the salary class, this is the end of the month with empty pockets.

A very good idea to offer such amazing deals. Like this Pakistan joins the International Club of outlets. However, to match Pakistani Tradition and as one of the Supplier above says it should be named as White Friday or even Green Friday which will match with the sacred aspect of Friday. Green is internationally the sign of hope also which matches with the Pakistani symbol.

If these sales are made on Eids or on our own festivals i bet sales will be much better than current ones.

@IA Very good comment and to the point. In the US ppl will spend 83 Billion this weekend and its right before Christmas so its perfect for them. I dont understand why we cant be original.

I can undertand adapting this concept for any outlets based in the States (or North America - as Canada is in/voluntarily included now in it as well) but why can they offer this to lcoal customers at an appropriate time when shopping is at its peak? say like 'wedding season' or ..you know - End of year sales..etc.

This is "an instant gratification" moment in the West. With "emptiness" in one's heart, people in the West are looking for some form of "happiness" - be it - Christmas, Valentines, Thanksgiving, Black Friday Sales, Boxing Day Sales, etc. What they find out, a week after - is that they are worse off than they were, before the event! Pakistan should really not be following this. We have values and traditions that go way beyond and that offer a lot more for a lot longer. We should treasure that and seek for true happiness - not material gratification.

@IA You're getting cheaper goods. If you don't want to buy them you're free not to. It's a voluntary choice to buy or sell.

@IA - Spot on. The primary reason behind Black Friday's sale is that, historically speaking, this is when most people start shopping for Christmas. Pakistani retailers should take a clue and offer similar deals around Eid which is when most Pakistanis shop.

I wonder why these brands are following the US? If such things occur around eid time or around cultural events pertaining to Pakistan that would be much better. I mean thanksgiving in USA is cultural and leads to the idea of Black Friday. However, how is this particular date justified by these Pakistani brands? I would be more happy to see real Pakistani brand come up with similar sales around our own holidays and cultural events. If one is to copy, one should copy rather smartly.

If we start this before Eid. That will be the right thing to do. Yes... But we are just not use to do things the right way. The word " RIGHT" is not in our vocabulary or dictionary.

We the victims of identity crisis cant even re-name the event as Golden Friday or something. While we celebrate the sales, we ignore the importance of Friday! No one stops from enjoying the event but at least head could be used!

In Pakistan sale is a mockery. All product prices on sale are still very high. Mobile prices alone are higher than open market rates. With the continuing trend of sale and purchase on online marketplaces intensifies these online stores are going to suffer in future.
