Trend spotting: The shalwar makes a comeback

Trend spotting: The shalwar makes a comeback

Won't it be nice to have the blood circulation in your legs back? Cigarette pants can get tight!
14 Oct, 2015

We know, we know, it hurts when a new trend emerges after lawn season stitching has come to an end but ladies, it's time to accept it: the shalwar is officially back.

Deep down, we all knew that harem/cigarette pants couldn't have replaced it for good but we say, why does it have to be an either/or situation? They can all live together like one, big, happy family!

It's presence on the runway reaffirmed our suspicion. One of our favourite ensembles in Elan's Jasmine Court collection was coupled with a shalwar.

Ammara Khan gave it a slit to shake things up.

Designer Feeha Jamshed gave it a Western makeover.

It went from ramp to retail in no time and soon, we spotted celebs donning the old classic.

Not just local celebs; even the Bolly stars are on point with this one.

If Deepika's doing it, it must really be back!

Makes sense. The short kameez is back, hence the need for shalwar revival.

It never went away. It has been the garment of choice for 99% of modest Pakistani and Indian Muslim women all along.

I'd rather it not make a comeback. Unless coupled with an appropriate kameez, shalwars have always been too sloppy for me. I think Pakistani fashion has wonderfully evolved over the years to acquire a westernized cut to the dresses. I don't understand why fashion bigwigs are trying to undo the niche of Pakistani fashion.

Shalwar should have never gone in the first place. It is the most decent part of our dress.

I don't know about men, but indeed, being in USA, I can say no other dress makes a woman look more beautiful than Shalwar Kameez. Actually desi girls' bodies just weren't designed for jeans, they look out of place wearing jeans.

@Saleem USA - then you haven't seen many desi girls..... xD personally i dislike the baggy shalwar for both men and women. pajamas or narrow pants are much better imo.
